HISTORY

The Hinton Branch Scott Family Reunion officially began in 1973 in Boligee (Greene County), Alabama.
Descendants of Thad and Fannie Hinton held the first reunion at the home of Lonnie and Gertrude Scott,
whose descendants, along with those of Mattie (Gertrude's sister) and Buel Branch, sponsored the first gathering.
Most of the original participants were descendants of Thad and Fannie Hinton. Succeeding years brought
the participation of descendants of William and Emma Scott, along with those of Walter and Charlotte Branch
into the reunion activities. Thus, the event came to be called the Hinton Branch Scott Family Reunion.

What started as a one-day event in 1973 continued for 46 consecutive years before the COVID-19 pandemic
suspended the Reunion in 2020 and 2021.
The Reunion has grown to four days of fun and family fellowship,
with activities usually including informal meet-and-greet receptions, guided tours of the host city, a banquet or
semi-formal gala, or other impromptu gatherings for shopping, dining and entertainment. The highlight of the
weekend is the family picnic, which is usually held on Saturday. Regardless of where the reunion is held,
the picnic is consistently the most well-attended event.

Previous reunions have been hosted by the following cities (year that city last hosted the reunion is in parenthesis):

• Atlanta (2014)
          • Birmingham, Ala. (2010)
          • Cleveland (2017)
          • Dayton, Ohio (2015)
          • Detroit (2023)
          • Huntsville, Ala. (2022)
          • Jackson, Miss. (2016)
          • Jacksonville, Fla. (2018)
• Phoenix, Ariz. (2019)
• Spring Valley, N.Y.
          • Stockton, Calif.
          • Tuscaloosa, Ala. (2012)
          • Woodbridge, Va. (2011)

In 1991, the Hinton Branch Scott Family Reunion Scholarship Program was established
to assist outstanding high school graduates who have been accepted to a post-secondary institution.
We are committed as a family to demonstrate our love and care for our young family members.

The Hinton Branch Scott Family Reunion has established a fine heritage since its humble beginnings in Boligee.
We envision an even greater future for this family, with the help of God and the dedication of its loving, God-fearing members.
So as we look forward to our 50th reunion, let us look back with joy and look forward with hope and expectation
for what God will do for and through us as a family. Let us give all praise, honor and glory to Almighty God, who has indeed
". . . brought us from a mighty long way!"
